MOPA Announces the Photography Event of the Year: Photo Auction 2011

Event Summary:

On Wednesday, October 5, 2011, the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) in Balboa Park will launch its first bi-annual Photo Auction. As the premiere photography auction in southern California, the event will give art collectors from throughout the region a rare opportunity to bid on an impressive array of contemporary and vintage fine art photography. All proceeds from will benefit MOPA’s renowned exhibitions and award-winning education programs.

The auction will be held at MOPA on October 5, from 6:00 - 10:00 pm and will feature both a live and silent photography auction conducted by Andrea Fiuczynski, president of Christie’s Los Angeles. The auction will include more than 70 works from prominent photographers from around the world, as well as regional artists living and working in southern California.

Work will be on view at MOPA from Friday, September 30 to Monday, October 3, allowing advanced viewing by members of the general public. Phone and absentee bidding will be available for those who are unable to attend.

“For the past 12 years, MOPA has produced Vintage, a series of wine tasting events and a wine auction that have been very successful, “ said Deborah Klochko, executive director, MOPA. “We are excited to shift our attention to a photography-focused benefit event that closely aligns with our mission. The auction places photography at center stage, celebrating the photographers and collectors who pursue the art form with passion.”

Tickets are $40 for MOPA members and $50 for non-members. VIP tickets are also available for $75 for MOPA members and $100 for non-members. VIP tickets include access to private curatorial consultations, an invitation to an exclusive VIP preview reception, and reserved live auction seats and parking.
