San Diego’s Premier Photography Event Returns

MOPA presents its biennial fundraiser Photo Auction on October 14, 2015

SAN DIEGO – The Museum of Photographic Arts invites photography collectors to the return of Photo Auction on Oct. 14 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. Guests have the opportunity to take home donated work from more than 60 well-known galleries and artists, including Ansel Adams, Brett Weston, Flor Garduño, Hendrik Kerstens and Matthew Brandt.

“I think the selection of work in this year’s Photo Auction is the best to date,” MOPA Executive Director Deborah Klochko said. “Everyone is sure to find that special piece they can’t live without.”

Photo Auction will include silent and live auctions with a cocktail reception and an extensive sampling of food from local caterers. Andrea Fiuczynski, auctioneer and chairman of Sotheby’s West Coast, will preside over the auction for the third time. Money raised at Photo Auction directly supports MOPA’s educational and community programs that serve kids, teens and seniors to better understand photography.

The photographs and publications available in Photo Auction are on view to the public at the museum until Oct. 11. To encourage visitors to start thinking of collecting, everyone may participate in the game, “Create Your Collection.” When visitors pick their five favorite pieces in the gallery and share it with the hashtag #PhotoAuction, they will receive 10 percent off at the museum store.

Tickets range from $75 for MOPA Members and $85 for public to $250 – $500 VIP ticket packages. VIP tickets included an advanced copy of the auction catalog, hosted valet, complementary bar and food, plus an invitation to the VIP Preview on Oct. 8. Tickets, event details and auction items are available at MOPA.org/auction. Phone and absentee bidding will be available for those who are unable to attend.
