“Courage” Film Screening + Panel Discussion
Join us for the film premiere of Courage, a story about five men imprisoned at the Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam War. A panel discussion with the veterans and survivors will directly follow the film. The PISANO Artistry Exhibit will be displayed in the Museum's atrium for viewing. Photographer Micha Bar-Am Film Documentary
The MGSDII and Museum of Photographic Arts invite you to an exclusive sneak screening of the acclaimed documentary that details the life and career of Israel's most celebrated war photographer, Micha Bar-Am. Photojournalist Micha Bar Am is considered the most important chronicler of the State of Israel.  His highly regarded photographs have documented Israel’s struggles and aspirations, highs and lows, armed conflicts and everyday life. In the film, questions and self-doubt surface, in a profound exploration of photography, memory, and the personal cost of a life devoted to recording a conflict and the building of a nation. Join us for a complimentary reception at 5:30 pm, and a conversation with the film's creator Ran Tal, an internationally renowned documentary filmmaker, after the film.

Gala Fundraiser to Save Endangered Elephants
Join us for a fun evening of films, art, and delicious food to save Asian elephants!
Sangita Iyer, an award-winning journalist, filmmaker and biologist, will be speaking on the human/elephant conflict in India. She will be showing two of her National Geographic elephant short films and doing a book signing for her best-selling book, Gods in Shackles. Amy Burkman will be doing a live art performance! There will be wine, appetizers, cupcakes and a silent auction. This is a fundraiser for Voice for Asian Elephants Society, founded by Sangita and endorsed by Dr. Jane Goodall: www.vfaes.org.

Funds raised during the gala will help build railroad sensors to protect elephants from tragedies caused by speeding trains in India. By employing indigenous people, VFAES is creating a peaceful coexistence between people and elephants of West Bengal.

Welcome to the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art!

As of July 1, 2023, the Museum of Photographic Arts and The San Diego Museum of Art have merged to become one unified institution. The Museum of Photographic Arts is now the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art (MOPA@SDMA).

MOPA@SDMA is open Thursdays through Sundays 11:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m.
