San Diego Asian Film Festival
The San Diego Asian Film Festival (SDAFF) is San Diego’s premier film showcase of Asian American and international cinema. Founded in 2000, the festival has grown to become the largest exhibition of Asian cinema in the western United States, and has showcased everything from future classics like Bong Joon-ho’s Memories of Murder (US Premiere) to luminary independent work like Patrick Wang’s award-winning In the Family (North American Premiere). Each year, the festival brings West Coast, North American, and World premieres of films from around the world to San Diego and gives audiences unique opportunities to discover international cinema. This year, the 23rd edition of SDAFF will showcase over 100 films from November 3-12, 2022. Visit SDAFF at MOPA on November 10, 11, & 12 for three days of Asian American and international cinema. Italian Film Festival Screening “Ennio: The Maestro”
This documentary marks the 13th collaboration between Ennio Morricone, one of the most celebrated film composer of all times, and his long-time friend Giuseppe Tornatore, for whom he has scored most of his films, including Cinema Paradiso. In addition to interviews with filmmakers and musicians, including Bernardo Bertolucci, Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood and Bruce Springsteen, the film features fragments of Morricone’s private life, recordings from his concert tours, clips of films he has scored and never-before-seen archival footage. In addition to Tornatore’s works, Morricone scored all of Sergio Leone’s films since A Fistful Of Dollars, Gillo Pontecorvo’s The Battle Of Algiers, Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1900, Roland Joffè’s The Mission, Terrence Malick’s Days Of Heaven and Brian de Palma’s The Untouchables. He has also sold more than 70 million records worldwide. In 2016, Morricone received the Academy Award for his score to Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight (2015). He is also the recipient of a further Academy Honorary Oscar, along with three Grammy Awards, three Golden Globes, six BAFTAs, ten David di Donatello awards, two European Film Awards and other prizes. 2022 San Diego Film Week

2022 San Diego Film Awards is back, live and in-person from November 17-20th at the Museum of Photographic Arts and other venues.  Screening over 40 locally produced films on the big screen, this year’s San Diego Film Week is a countywide celebration promoting the diverse filmmakers, actors, film festivals, production companies, studios, schools, artists and creatives that make up the San Diego film industry. Film Week’s mission is to showcase, celebrate and grow San Diego’s film industry.

The Annual San Diego Film Week is a celebration of film in America's Finest City. Local films will be screened and attendees will also enjoy conference style workshops, filmmaker Q & A’s, parties and an awards celebration.

Welcome to the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art!

As of July 1, 2023, the Museum of Photographic Arts and The San Diego Museum of Art have merged to become one unified institution. The Museum of Photographic Arts is now the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art (MOPA@SDMA).

MOPA@SDMA is open Thursdays through Sundays 11:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m.
