Speakers: Holly Roberts, Artist
MOPA@SDMA Joan and Irwin Jacobs Theater
Attention, art enthusiasts! The San Diego Museum of Art Docent Council is hosting the trailblazing artist Holly Roberts, whose work masterfully blends photography and painting to create mysterious and intriguing pieces. For over four decades, Roberts has explored her rich inner world through her art. With a deep connection to nature, both human and animal, she was an early pioneer in mixing the mediums of painting and photography. From painting directly onto photographic surfaces to cutting and shaping photographs onto textured, painted canvases, there is a unifying thread that binds her innovative work.
During this lecture, Roberts will provide insight into her creative process and the inspirations behind her evocative pieces that defy convention. Her artworks, which span from the 1980s until today, meld different media in a unique way to evoke universal human experiences and concerns. After the talk, Roberts will be available to sign copies of her newly published book, Storyteller: Work by Holly Roberts, a catalog showcasing 60 groundbreaking works from her groundbreaking career.
See works by Roberts in her solo exhibition, Storyteller: Work by Holly Roberts, on view at the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art in The Schwartz Gallery.
