Summer Camps

Explore Movie Making, Visual Storytelling, Animation, & Hidden Worlds!


Summer Camps for Grades 1-3

Young campers can join to explore the world of media through fun hands-on projects and games! All of our camps are designed to compliment your child's interests and level of experience. Each camp is one week, Monday through Friday and runs from 9am-4pm.

Animation Studio: July 9-13

Artist: Steven Topham
Campers will create their own characters and animate stories in a series of fun and creative projects with local animator, Steven Topham! Bring your imagination to life!
*All equipment will be provided.


Summer Camps for Grades 4-6

Join us for some creative fun while learning some new skills! These camps focus on technique, visual storytelling, and exploration. All of our camps are designed to compliment your child's interests and level of experience.Each camp is one week, Monday through Friday and runs from 9am-4pm.

Mini-Movies: June 18-22

How much story can we tell in one image?  What about a 2 second video? We’ll explore early ideas around short visual stories, and then move into the new age of technology and learn how to make gifs, boomerangs, memes, and musicallys!
*All equipment will be provided.

Create+Animate: Stop Motion Animation: July 16-20 (SOLD OUT/WAITLIST)

Artist: Steven Topham
Create your own movie! Using professional equipment and their creativity, campers will work alongside local animator, Steven Topham, to create a stop-motion animated short from concept through creation. Got ideas? We’ve got the tools to bring them to life!
*All equipment will be provided.

How to “Ruin” a Photo: July 30-August 3

Artist: Jessie McIntyre
Create unusual, odd, accidental, yet stunning works of photographic art through an all-new array of experimental techniques normally thought to “ruin” photos. We will take inspiration from contemporary photographers whose work pushes the boundaries of traditional photography.
*Cameras are provided, but we welcome campers to bring their own camera with SD memory card if they like!

Hidden Worlds: August 6-10

Learn about the magic of photography to capture images that can’t be seen with the naked eye, and create your own hidden world! Campers will learn about the magic of spirit photography, how to create a photo without a camera, and much, much more.
*Cameras are provided, but we welcome campers to bring their own camera with manual controls and SD memory card if they like!


Summer Camps for Grades 6-10

It's all about the craft in these skill-building, creative camps!  Campers will play with techniques and tools from vintage to truly contemporary to share their artistic vision. All of our camps are designed to compliment your child's interests and level of experience.Each camp is one week, Monday through Friday and runs from 9am-4pm.

Creative Studio: June 25-29

Explore pro photo techniques with camera control, lighting, set design, and styling to recreate images from media, then apply your new skills to create imaginative studio setups of your own!
*Bring your own digital camera with manual controls or use one of ours!

Stop Motion Animation- Pure Imagination: July 23-27

Artist: Steven Topham
Through immersive exercises and tutorials, camp participants will be guided from the basics through all the unique possibilities that the medium of stop motion provides to tell imaginative stories and present unique visuals.
*All equipment will be provided.

Photographic Evidence: August 13-17

Artist: Rizzhel Javier
Learn how to use the manual controls on your camera to capture images we can’t see with the naked eye. Expand and freeze time, explore making images with a variety of senses, and reveal hidden worlds while visiting other Museums in the park.
*Bring your own digital camera with manual controls or use one of ours!

Music Video Makers: August 20-24

Music Video Makers
Artist: Rizzhel Javier
Want to make your own music video? All you need is a great song and this camp! Learn all the skills you’ll need and experiment with new approaches alongside film and video artist, Rizzhel Javier! Great music + creative video = awesomeness.
*Bring your own tablet or video-capable camera or use one of ours!


Summer Camp Cost:
$270 per week for MOPA members and Explorer Pass holders
$300 per week for all others
Sibling discount - 10%
Weekly camps are Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm.
Are you a military or first responder family? Email camp@mopa.org for a partner code for 10% off and thank you for your service!

NOTE: Camps are designed for kids ages 6 to 16. Grade categories are used as a guideline to direct parents to camps with appropriate skill levels. We welcome you to register your children in whichever category you think is best!  Please email us at camp@mopa.org with questions!

A limited number of scholarships are available!  Scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis and are awarded based on need.  Please fill out our 2018 Scholarship form to apply.
