Open Show San Diego #13

Join us for an exciting evening of live presentations and lively conversations at Open Show #13.

Open Show San Diego and MOPA welcome presenting artists for August:
Open Show features a curated line-up of five local visual storytellers - from photographers to filmmakers - to share their work. The evening's format encourages attendees to mingle with the artists and ask questions throughout. Oh, and raffle prizes! What's not to love?
Are you (or someone you know) interested in showing your creative work? The call for submissions is closed for this Open Show, but the call is now open for a chance to show your work at Open Show #14 in November 2019!

SD Italian FF Presents: Taranta on the Road
The San Diego Italian Film Festival presents: Taranta on the Road (2017) Directed by Salvatore Allocca | 80 minutes The day after the Arab Spring of 2011, Amira and Tarek, two Tunisian migrants with nothing in common, reach the Italian coast. By chance, they find themselves both seeking help from a music band from Salento, Apulia, in search of success around festivals and weddings. The band mistakes them as a couple that’s going to have a child and the band members decide to help them to reach France. The trip, fear, love, the uncertain future and the desire to find their own way join all in a unique experience that, perhaps, will change their lives forever. As tickets for this series often sell out, we encourage you to buy tickets online in advance. All films in the series in Italian will have English subtitles. 
  • Advance tickets are available online through San Diego Italian Film Festival.com until the afternoon of the screening.
  • Unless noted online at San Diego Italian Film Festival.com  as Sold Out, available tickets can be purchased at the Box office the Night of. (Sorry-MOPA does not have information as to ticket availability)
  • The Box office will open about 45 mins before the screening
  • Cost: $12 General Admission; $8 SDIFF and MOPA Members, Students & Active Military

Culture TREK: Bruce Davidson

Join members on August 30 for an intimate look at select works by Magnum photographer Bruce Davidson.

From the fight for civil rights across American's south to Harlem’s changing landscape in 1970’s New York, Davidson's work provides perspectives on key events that shaped the United States in the the 20th century. This is a members-only event. Not a member? Join today! About the Program MOPA's Culture Treks highlight original works from the museum’s collection for members to view up close and in detail. Each trek introduces key works from the collection, provides context and understanding through dialogue and discussion, and advocates the importance of the museum’s collection and resources. Welcome to the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art!

As of July 1, 2023, the Museum of Photographic Arts and The San Diego Museum of Art have merged to become one unified institution. The Museum of Photographic Arts is now the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art (MOPA@SDMA).

MOPA@SDMA is open Thursdays through Sundays 11:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m.
