Why MOPA staff add pronouns in email signatures

By proactively including pronouns in our email signatures we:

  1. Ensure we have the language we need to be affirming to our staff,
  2. Help avoid assumptions about a person’s gender identity,
  3. Respect the diversity of gender identities, and
  4. Promote awareness of transgender and gender nonconforming communities.

Fighting transphobia takes proactive work. Creating spaces that affirm people’s identities takes proactive work, according to the ACLU NorCal.

Many cisgender people do not need to worry about having gender identities recognized. That is not the case for many gender nonconforming and transgender people. Many transgender people fight on a daily basis to have their names and pronouns respected.
