MOPA’s delayed reopening.

Thank you for your loyalty to the Museum of Photographic Arts. You’re the first to hear our plans for what remains of 2020, a year that proved our shared interest for critical thinking urgent. Throughout these past six months, your support set in motion the team spirit that’s championing through the uncertainty.

Today, we’re announcing a delayed reopening. MOPA will open no earlier than the 2020 holiday season. Though not an easy decision, the Museum leadership decided not to encourage people gathering indoors just yet.

However, our team and community work from home every day to achieve our mission and make it accessible to you. Through this unprecedented time, your kindness helped our Museum enact its mission without walls.

With your financial support, MOPA continues to provide learning opportunities online. No-cost activities like Photo Club for youth exist today because of you. Our visual learning experts developed programs in-house to ensure visual literacy is still the priority.

Only a handful of organizations in the world are dedicated to the photographic arts. Today, most people communicate through these three channels of visual imagery: still photography, film and video. It is these very art forms that influence modern society more than any other medium.

Lou Stoumen was an accomplished writer, photographer and filmmaker, who published 10 photography books and earned two Academy Awards for his film productions during a career that spanned more than four decades.⁣

MOPA received his archive in 1992 and established the Lou Stoumen Prize to award working photographers of outstanding merit.
